![]() So, I called Dell (this was when the thing had been in my house for only a week). It pissed me off when I was typing something in a low-light situation, and took 15 seconds to get a sip of water or try to think what I was typing, looking something up, etc and NO DAMNED lights on my keyboard. Unlike my older Dell, there was NO way to make the light stay on. They\’d come back on only I would either touch a key or \”hover\” my hand over the middle of the alphabet part of the keyboard. NOTHING that I did, though, would keep the lights on any longer. Long-story-short, after I had the laptop for a few days, I had one BIG complaint and nothing I could do would fix it: the 5558\’s keyboard light kept turning off after 10 sec AND there are only a couple brightness levels and they\’re controlled with the F10 key and you go from Off, to bright, to low, to Off, etc. I bought it over a year ago and I was used to the backlit keyboard on my previous Dell, where you could turn it on, and change it to different levels of brightness. I have had my Inspiron 5558 signature edition. Studio Laptop with backlit keyboard have an additional icon for the LED on/off switch, which is located on the right arrow key. Note: This only works if you have purchased the optional backlit keyboard while ordering. The lighting modes are full keyboard, half keyboard, and off. With the same hotkey, you can toggle between the three lighting states (in the given order). You can see all symbols illuminating on the keys. Instead, you need to manually enable the backlit keyboard if you have it on your device. ![]() But unlike Apple MacBook Pro, there is no sensor that can automatically turn on the backlit keyboard in dim light. ![]() DELL offers a backlit keyboard in its Laptop/Notebook which is an optional feature.
